Minutes written by Cathy Addison, Secretary

Pres. Clem McLay at Flowing Wells High School
Workshop.

Balance $1,216.82
Minutes for the December 5, 2009 meeting were approved as published.
23 members were present.

was won by Ivan Hanna.
The Bring Back: (wooden basket, made by John Cook) was won by
Alan Crosby.
OLD BUSINESS:
Toy Project Summary: (Report sent by Toy Chairman, Frank
Pickett) Total 1,385 toys “(somewhat less than 1,990 produced in 2008 –
possibly due to the uncertainties of the new toy safety law.)” Frank extended thanks to all who made toys, all
who donated wood, wheels, money and crayons, those who sponsored institutions
and distributed toys and to Alan Crosby (a.k.a. Santa) and Gene Rittenhouse
(a.k.a. Elf).
The following toys were delivered:
(1295
wheeled vehicles, 15 keepsake boxes and 75 crayon holders.)
Distribution was as
follows: Child Protective Services 145
·
Borton School 350
·
Ocotillo School 310
·
Los Ranchitos
School 250
·
La Frontera
School 160
·
Reynolds School 170
·
No change on the
Safety Law yet. It seems that it will not be enforced this year, so the 2010
Toy Project is probably good to go again.
We will have further discussion at the February meeting.
Frank reminds us that “....all toys need to be
safe. Please glue all wheels and sand
all edges and surfaces. We do not
distribute to children under 3 directly, but we do not know where toys end up
or if there are younger children who might
use them.”
Christmas Party
Report:
· SAZWA and Desert Woodcrafter members, spouses and guests
enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Dave's Barbeque. A great big “THANK YOU” to Sam Scalzo and the SAZWA committee who
organized, set up and decorated the Church hall. Sam and George Lewis turned
snowmen for table decorations that were given away at the end of the party.
· Gifts were exchanged.
· Numerous door prizes were given out.
· Paul Swane reported that the
Church can't assure availability of the hall until December 1, 2010, and SAZWA
felt that doesn't give enough time to plan the party. There were several suggestions of restaurants
that might have banquet rooms that would accommodate our group. Contact SAZWA or Desert Woodcrafter officer
if you have any ideas or suggestions for the party.
