BUSINESS:
Frank Pickett brought in donated toy supplies for the
Christmas Toy Project. Several buckets of misc. pieces for the cars donated by Dick Kratz. Most of the donations have been picked up but
there still more crayon holders and lazy Susan’s left which Frank Pickett will
bring back to the October meeting. Frank also, mentioned that the deadline will
be early December.
Also, the Optimist Club donated a check for $350.00. Going towards purchasing
additional supplies needed to make the toys. Frank volunteered to
deliver a Thank You Letter to Pete Zimmer.
New Officers for next year. Will have election coming
in January.
Fall Fling will be here soon!! Saturday, October 31, 2009. Will need volunteers for
the demo. $15.00 per plate will
be due so bring your check to the next meeting if you plan on attending. Will be at the Rancho
Vistoso.

1. Ken Tower –
Antique Cane Chair needed repairs, Ken was given an article from Bob
2. Ivan Hanna- 2
Keepsake boxes First one made from Fir. Clear with no knots Fir came from
St.Joseph’s Mich. Second box made from old maple porch posts and a “Twig on
Steriods” Vase. Aspen wood George Lewis
gave to him while in Colorado.
3. Stan Ries –
Scroll Saw Clock made from Cedar and Cherry glued on with veneer.
4. George Sample-
Alder End Table or Nightstand with two drawers or shelves.-Europeon style.
George used three layers of polyurethane for finish.
5. Frank Pickett
–Segmented bowl, used an adapter with the tail stock (a free spinning chuck)used a No.2 taper with a live end. Frank recommends using the Super Nova Chuck
for heavy items.
6. Dan Williams-Indian
head carved from basswood, even carved out the eyes for a more dramatic look.
The directions suggests hanging the carving on the
wall to pick up the Wolf’s eyes. Dan
decided to make use of the wood and created a base from the existing wood to
form a stand. Used dark and clear min wax also brown shoe
polish. color.
7. Dennis Minkel-Picture
of his front porch made of knot hickory. Also displayed a mechanical pencil
used food coloring for color.
8.George Lewis-Turned
bowl with turquise inlay for detail. Had to use some coffee grounds to cover a gouge. The bowl
fell and hit the tool rest.
9. Mike Phillips-Bread
Board and Knife Set. Used multiple woods
for the board and purchased knife on line.
Shared new discovery for finish. Use paraffin wax grate
it and dissolve. Same
technique as using walnut or mineral oil. Use one coat.

DEMONSTRATION
BY Stan Reis
Stan demonstrated on easier way to set up a Lock Miter for
joining two corners of wood. He used a
1/2 inch bit with a 45 degree lock with a 3 inch fence.
