Demo –
Frank Pickett shared his experience making Christmas toys. Frank prefers to use a 3/16” 10-tooth band saw blade for his work on toys. He covered recognizing and fixing materials problems like knots, voids and cracks. When he discovers defects in materials he either avoids them by cutting outside the defect - sometimes requiring a design modification - or repairs it using wood filler or plugging with wood. He warns us to make sure the toy retains its structural integrity. Vehicle axles can become a problem if the holes are not drilled parallel to each other. This causes the vehicle to rock diagonally on its wheels. Re-drilling is the usual remedy.
Sam Scalzo will do a demo on making hanging decorations next month.
