Meeting Minutes – Desert Woodcrafters Association – June 7, 2008

Clem McLay, Vice President, called the meeting to order at 9:08 a.m. at the Raytheon Woodchippers’ clubhouse.  16 members and 3 guests (Denise Omdahl, Lee Anne Holt and Keith Stephens) - were in attendance.

Minutes  for May 3, 2007 were approved as published. Motion made by Frank Pickett, seconded by Ivan Hanna.

The 50/50  ($33.00) was won by Denise Amdahl.

The Bring Back,   Stan Ries won the bring-back, a turned vase made by Paul Swane.

Show & Tell -  12  members and a guest participated and Clem McLay won the drawing.

l  George Sample – Scrollsawn keepsake box with multiple compartments.

l   Sam Scalzo –  Weed pots.

l  Dan Williams – A whatsit tool.  Scrollsawn keepsake box with carved embellishments.

Auction:  Jim Zimmerman donated an inside sander to be auctioned for the benefit of the club.  It went for $15.00 to George Lewis.

Old business:  None.

New business: Terry Glover has a woodworking job for anyone interested.

The meeting adjourned at 9:40.

Demo – Keith Stephens, President of Woodworkers Source presented a slide show on exotic woods, specifically on a trip he made to South America to look for wood.  Countries covered were Ecuador and Nicaragua.  He showed us how Cocobolo, Tropical Walnut, Santos Mahogany and other species are harvested and processed.
