New
business:
The
meeting adjourned at
Demo Ken Tower showed us how to make
roll-top doors. Lay out wood strips and
then sand one side only, the side that shows.
Use linen, preferably, or canvas.
Linen stretches very little in either direction while canvas tends to
get stiff over time. Keep the strips
clamped tightly together to prevent the glue from between the strips. Use contact cement to glue the cloth to the
wood chips. Don't try to clean the brush
when done. The solvent-based cement is
ideal. Paint it on both surfaces, let it
dry. Soak the linen side. Double coat the wood side since it will
absorb some. Touch it to test if it
dried. When dry it won't feel
sticky. Then get some help to lay the
cloth onto the strips. Use a veneer
roller or use a block of wood and whap (Ken's technical term) the cloth.
